Stuff Boston cover and article
I was thrilled to be a part of the shoot for October 18th cover of Stuff Boston. It was such a well-organized shoot – only took a few hours! – and came out in print only a few weeks later, which is not the norm (usually I’m waiting for months). Very fun, and very rewarding to have my work on the cover of the issue.
The goal was to showcase fetish-inspired wardrobe for Fall (with softer makeup, to keep the result from being too gothic or costume-y), as well as feature the new, soon-to-open bar Descent, which is located underneath the stylist W Hotel in downtown Boston. I loved the location, it definitely felt like one of those places I might not be be cool enough to get into (haha!) so it was a treat to work there and see the space before it opens to the public. I kept Tessa’s eyes subtle with a soft smoky brown liner and wispy false lashes, and gave her a punch of fuchsia on the lips (vibrant lipstick is huge this Fall!)
Here are scans of the pages that show images from the shoot, starting with the cover:

Spirited Magazine editorial
This was such a different shoot for me – very colorful, creative, and downright CREEPY! We shot in the apartment above the hairstylist’s, and if that place isn’t haunted, I don’t know what is. Peeling wallpaper, mysterious stains on the floor… you name it. To make things even creepier, we filled the rooms with mirrors and, for one look, draped our model Freya in translucent fabric. For a shoot that actually took place in May, the published piece (in the current issue of Spirited Magazine) has a very Halloween-appropriate, creepy-doll kind of feel! Enjoy.
Here are some other shots we took that day that didn’t make the spread, but that show the makeup well:
Shannon, the photographer, posted a beautiful selection of images from the day in her blog as well.

First glimpse from 60′s-themed shoot
Sometimes, everything comes together even better than you had envisioned. This shoot took place a few months ago in Boston, and we managed to rock it out despite a last-minute model cancellation. Thankfully, we found a SUPERB replacement and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
The theme was a modern take on 1960′s fashion (Mad Men, etc.), and each makeup look was achieved with Temptu airbrush foundation and OCC lip tars. I loved doing the strong brow and pale nude lips in the mod look, as well as the classic red lips. I also used a rich chocolate brown nail color on Christine (Shades by Barielle, “Make it a Latte”).
The full editorial will be appearing soon on HowToBeARedhead.com, but here are some initial selects:

Behind the scenes: Turn Magazine editorial
This shoot was lots of fun – we got to invade a fancy restaurant in New Bedford and shoot multiple outfits from Calico, a local shop. We worked from sunup to sundown! The concept for the makeup was very simple: clean, very bare airbrushed faces (almost no eye makeup at all) with strong contouring and burgundy lips. The editorial will be published in the Summer issue of Turn Magazine, a new online magazine that spotlights emerging talent.
(Check out the stylist’s dog making an appearance – she was a terrific model!)

Kontrol Magazine, April ’11 beauty spread
Just received copies of my beauty spread with photographer Angela Michelle Perez, which appeared in the April issue (aka The Art issue) of Kontrol, an Atlanta-based fashion, culture & lifestyle magazine. Since the credits and products used are listed, I’ll just let the clips do the talkin’! (Click the images to see them full-size.)

Sessions Magazine editorial
I’d almost forgotten about this shoot, from Halloween during my 2010 NYC testing trip – I was a last-minute addition to the roster and literally wrapped this a few hours before I boarded Amtrak to return to Massachusetts. We had a great time getting Gemmy prepped in the Starbucks on Front Street in Brooklyn (you gotta do what you gotta do on a location shoot)! The clothing designer, Eminent Fash, subsequently submitted our work to an online magazine called Sessions – here is the spread:
And since I know it’s hard to actually see the makeup in this layout, here are a few close-ups from the shoot:
