In Photoshoots

This was a new experience for me! I’ve done plenty of makeup that had to stay put through tears, sweat, etc., but never makeup that had to withstand being underwater for hours (well, non-sequential hours, anyway). I’m pleased to say the dramatic look that I came up with was even more water-resistant than I had hoped – it wasn’t going ANYWHERE until the model took it off!

The submerged photos still need to be processed, so I have only above-water photos to show right now:

In the second photo, she had already been underwater multiple times over an hour – see how nicely the eyes stayed put? Nothing ran down her face!

The obvious choice for underwater work is makeup that is oil, gel or silicone based – nothing water based, and any powder used has to have something to stick to. I used CoverFX cream foundation with just loose powder to set; BeneTint cheek and lip stain (in the first photo); MAC longwear liquid lipstick on lips (second photo); and MAC Fluidline eyeliner on the lids with Yaby Pearl Paint eyeshadows on top. And, of course, waterproof mascara (Cover Girl Lash Blast). I can definitely recommend using water-resistant gel eyeliner as eyeshadow – it looked amazing no matter how many times the model ducked below the surface. Just don’t rub at your eyes when wearing it!

Yesterday was perfect for a shoot in a pool – really hot and sunny. I was quite jealous of both the model and photographer for being able to take a dip. I settled for standing at the edge of the above-ground pool and swirling my arms below the surface. Very relaxing, considering I didn’t have to do touch-ups until the outfit change! I can’t wait to see how the underwater images come out.
